When Chloe finally read the inscription, she discovered the grave belonged to a woman named Eleanor. Beneath her name were two dates and a simple message: “Beloved wife, mother, and best friend.” Chloe photographed the headstone and sent it to me. I recognized immediately that Richard had once been married, something he had never mentioned to my mother.
I couldn’t understand why he had hidden such an important part of his life. Had he been lying about his past? Was he still emotionally attached to someone else?
