Mara had traveled to a quiet countryside guesthouse expecting little more than peaceful views and old-fashioned hospitality. The owner proudly showed her around the century-old building, pointing out antique furniture, hand-carved beams, and fading family photographs that had survived generations. Everything seemed charming until she stepped into the bathroom.

 

There, she noticed an unusual toilet with a flat porcelain shelf inside the bowl instead of the deep water she was accustomed to seeing. It looked so different that she wondered whether it was broken or simply too old to replace. Unable to hide her curiosity, she politely asked the owner why anyone would still keep such a strange design.
