At seven o’clock, everyone gathered around our dining table. Both sets of parents admired the decorations, and Elon looked happier than he had in months. Sophie slept peacefully in her bassinet nearby. We ate dinner, shared memories, and laughed about our wedding day. Elon even told everyone that becoming a father had been the greatest experience of his life. I watched him carefully, wondering how someone could speak so beautifully about family while secretly planning to abandon his wife and daughter.
After dessert, Elon stood and raised his champagne glass. “Seven wonderful years,” he announced. “And hopefully many more.” Everyone applauded. I stood beside him and thanked our parents for coming. Then I reached into my handbag and removed the envelope. “I have a surprise too,” I said. Elon smiled and leaned toward me, expecting a romantic gift. Instead, I placed the hotel reservation, financial records, and a printed copy of the attorney’s letter in front of him. His smile disappeared when he recognized the first document.
