Elon stared at the documents. “Madeline, what is this?” he asked. I looked directly at him. “It’s the hotel reservation you made for yourself and Sierra. And these are the withdrawals from our joint savings account that you never explained.” My mother covered her mouth. His father slowly lowered his glass. Elon tried to laugh, claiming the reservation was for a business trip. Then I played a short recording of the accidental phone call, which I had documented immediately afterward. His own voice filled the room: “I’ll divorce her and marry you.”
Nobody spoke. Elon turned pale and asked me to stop. I switched off the recording and explained that I had already consulted an attorney. I wasn’t going to argue about whether he loved me or whether Sierra was better than me. I wanted honesty, financial transparency, and a safe future for Sophie. My father asked Elon whether the recording was real. He couldn’t deny it. Then his mother began crying, while my mother moved beside me and held my hand. Elon finally whispered, “I can explain.” I answered, “You’ve had six days to tell the truth. Now it’s my turn to make a decision.”
