“Mom, did you help them forge my signature?” I asked. Her silence answered before she did. Patricia immediately contacted her solicitor and requested that the suspicious document be preserved. Megan started crying, insisting they’d only wanted to help Brian. But Daniel had already discovered messages showing they planned to move his belongings inside before I could intervene. They believed that once Brian occupied the house, removing him would become difficult. My mother finally admitted she had encouraged the entire plan. Then Brian said something that made everyone turn toward him: “You haven’t heard why we really needed that house.”
Brian explained that he had accumulated enormous debts and believed moving into the property would give him time to sort out his financial problems. Mom had promised to help him because she believed I would eventually forgive everything. Megan had even researched the value of my furniture. I felt sick listening to them discuss my property as though it already belonged to them. Patricia informed everyone that the police were being contacted. Brian suddenly accused Mom of being the mastermind. Their argument exposed a betrayal much bigger than the house itself.
