Trevor finally asked who Nathan Brooks really was. I explained that he was my attorney and the person who had helped me protect my winnings. Nathan had also discovered that the house was facing serious financial difficulties. Their mortgage payments were overdue, and foreclosure proceedings had nearly begun. I had purchased the outstanding debt through my holding company and arranged a legal transfer. I hadn’t done it to punish them. Initially, I wanted to save their home. But after hearing their birthday jokes and witnessing their continued entitlement, I changed my plans. Amanda whispered, “So you’re throwing us out?”
“No,” I answered. “I’m giving you thirty days to make responsible decisions.”
