The following afternoon, we met David and Sarah, the other couple. They arrived carrying their little boy, Noah. David looked furious, while Sarah seemed frightened. Neither family wanted to believe the hospital’s explanation. We agreed to independent DNA testing before making any decisions. When the results finally arrived, the truth was undeniable. Noah was Emily’s and my biological son. Meanwhile, the baby we had been raising belonged biologically to David and Sarah. Emily began crying, and I couldn’t stop staring at Noah’s photograph.
But the most difficult question remained: what would happen to the children? David immediately demanded his biological son back. Sarah, however, refused to hand over the baby she had loved for months. Emily looked at me, waiting for an answer. I realized that the little boy we had raised was innocent. He didn’t deserve to lose the only parents he had ever known. Then David revealed that he had already contacted a lawyer.
