Dad explained that he would personally oversee his finances again. All rental payments would go into an account he could monitor, and both daughters would receive proper financial statements. He also ordered me to stop withdrawing $2,100 monthly from my retirement. Then he turned toward Sherry. “I would have helped Roger if you’d asked. But your sister sacrificed her retirement because you lied. You must repay every dollar.” Sherry nodded through her tears. Dad proposed payments of $500 monthly until the $75,600 was returned.
I was surprised when Dad also told Sherry that he forgave her. However, he made one thing clear: forgiveness didn’t mean pretending nothing had happened. Before leaving, I asked her to tell Roger the truth. She promised she would. For the first time in three years, our father had taken control of his money and his family’s future.
