They returned three days early. Mauro, his mother Patricia, and his sister Jamie walked through my front door carrying expensive luggage and the same entitlement they had shown for years. But this time, I was ready for them. I sat calmly with a cup of tea while my attorney Veronica, a notary, and my forensic accountant waited nearby. They had spent weeks tracing money that disappeared from my company and eventually led back to Mauro. He had stolen my platinum card while I was in a board meeting and charged more than $300,000 on flights, resorts, shopping, and other luxuries for his family. When I canceled the card, he threatened me with divorce.
That threat finally gave me the courage to act. Veronica placed divorce papers and financial restrictions on the table, along with evidence of shell companies and fraudulent transfers. Patricia insisted Mauro had done nothing wrong because he was my husband and deserved “family support.” But the documents proved otherwise. The house belonged to my trust, not Mauro or his family, and the evidence against him was overwhelming. Then, just as security prepared to remove them, the doorbell rang.
