For ten years, Nathan had let me handle every piece of paperwork he claimed to hate. He waved away forms, contracts, and documents while I quietly filled them out and kept our household organized. I never imagined that his indifference would eventually become the reason everything between us would change. Then, after an argument about marriage, Nathan laughed at my concerns about legal security and called marriage nothing more than a useless piece of paper. That night, while he slept, I sat alone at the kitchen table. I opened the files I had kept for years and started checking every document. The first thing I found was our house deed. I read it twice.
