I remained frozen beside my bed, listening to the knocking. Whoever stood outside my bedroom eventually walked away. When the police arrived, two officers searched the entire property while I waited downstairs. They checked every bedroom, closet, bathroom, and storage room. Nobody was hiding inside. Every door was locked, and the windows appeared undisturbed. The older officer then explained that the mysterious emergency call had been recorded at 2:47 a.m. The woman had described someone watching her bedroom window before abruptly disconnecting. I insisted I hadn’t made that call.
One officer stepped outside and discovered something beneath my bedroom window. Small footprints crossed the damp ground, continuing toward the sidewalk. However, they suddenly disappeared near the road. The officers photographed everything and promised additional patrols. After they left, I called my daughter, Emily, who lived several states away. I needed to hear a familiar voice. She listened carefully, then became unusually quiet. Finally, she admitted something that made the entire situation even stranger. She had experienced a terrifying dream about my house that same night.
