On opening day, the farm was filled with neighbors, children, and friends. Hattie stood beside me as we welcomed everyone. My best friend arrived first, followed by Grant, Ellie, and eventually my parents. Mother looked around in surprise when she saw how much work I had accomplished. Dad quietly admitted that he hadn’t realized how much I needed their support.
I didn’t pretend everything was suddenly perfect. I told them I needed kindness, patience, and the freedom to recover without being hidden away. Hattie later took me to that same old tree and showed me the green beneath its bark. “Remember what I told you?” she asked. I smiled. I finally understood. Healing doesn’t mean nothing bad ever happened. It means life can grow again, even after the hardest seasons. And I was living proof.
