Laura explained that Robert had been diagnosed with a serious illness several months before his death. During that period, he finally told her how much he regretted keeping her existence a secret from Margaret. He had written a letter explaining everything and asked Laura to deliver it when she felt ready. Unfortunately, Robert died before they could arrange a proper meeting. Laura had spent months gathering the courage to approach Margaret, but every attempt had ended in hesitation. That night, she had finally decided she could no longer postpone the truth.
Margaret agreed to meet Laura at a nearby café. When they sat together, Laura handed her the sealed letter. Robert apologized for his dishonesty and explained that he had never wanted to hurt either woman. He admitted that his silence had become a burden he carried for decades. He also wrote that Laura was not a mistake or a secret he wanted forgotten. She was his daughter, and he hoped Margaret might someday welcome her into the family. Margaret finished reading with tears running down her cheeks. She finally understood why Robert had left that photograph behind.
