At 3:07 a.m., Margaret Wilson woke to a strange scraping sound against her bedroom window. Since her husband had died two years earlier, she had grown accustomed to the silence of her countryside home, but this sound was different. Someone was deliberately dragging something across the glass. Terrified, she grabbed her phone and called the county dispatcher. She explained that someone appeared to be outside her bedroom. The dispatcher listened quietly before asking an unsettling question: “Ma’am, are you calling us again?”
Margaret froze. She insisted this was her first call. The dispatcher lowered his voice and explained that a woman had contacted emergency services fifteen minutes earlier, giving Margaret’s full name and exact address. The caller sounded frightened and claimed someone was inside the house. Margaret whispered that she lived alone. Then the dispatcher said something that made her blood run cold: “The previous call came from a telephone registered inside your home.”
