The following morning, Marcus finally admitted that he had noticed Greg and Lydia becoming unusually close months earlier. He had confronted his wife, but she insisted they were only friends. He confessed that Greg had proposed the partner exchange shortly after Marcus discovered suspicious hotel charges. Suddenly, everything made sense. Greg wasn’t suggesting an experiment to strengthen our marriage.
He was trying to make his relationship with Lydia appear acceptable by convincing everyone that we had agreed to an unusual arrangement. Marcus looked devastated. I told him I had no intention of playing along with their deception. Then I showed him the messages I had saved. His face turned pale when he recognized the date of their first secret meeting.
