When Derek returned from the cruise, he expected to find everything normal. Instead, he found investigators waiting and his belongings packed separately. He immediately demanded to see Lily. I told him she was safe but that any contact would have to follow the arrangements recommended by the authorities and our attorneys. He accused me of destroying our family over a misunderstanding. I showed him photographs of the closet and asked why he had forged financial documents using my identity.
His confidence disappeared. He admitted that Patricia had helped organize the loans, claiming they needed money to cover debts and planned to repay everything before I returned. He also admitted that he knew the childcare arrangements had fallen through but assumed someone would eventually check on Lily. I asked him how he could board a cruise ship knowing his daughter might be alone. He looked down and said nothing. That silence ended whatever remained of my marriage.
