I kept a small piece of foil on the inside of the door as a reminder of that night. What initially seemed like a silly household trick had encouraged me to pay closer attention to my home’s security. More importantly, I realized that feeling safe shouldn’t depend on one clever trick.
Good locks, lighting, cameras, awareness, and trusted neighbors provided much stronger protection. The strange wrinkles on that morning’s foil had given me a warning, and I was grateful that I had noticed them before assuming everything was normal.
