Eight Months Earlier She Sat At Our Kitchen Table With Printed Invoices And I Chose The Company2

Delphine told me the divorce email was fake. There had been no North Carolina law firm. Desmond had manufactured everything after Delphine discovered fraud at our kitchen table. He needed her gone, and me too proud to question why she had left. Everything made sense. My wife had not abandoned me. Someone had built a wall between us and convinced me it was her choice.

I did not return to Chicago to sign my contract. I went back to confront Desmond finally. Delphine still had the invoices she copied, and when I examined them, the pattern was undeniable. Northgate had been losing money to shell vendors controlled by Desmond for two years. The divorce was never about our marriage. It had been about silencing Delphine, who understood the fraud.

Four months later, Desmond was arrested. A forensic accountant, whose warnings I had dismissed, had documented the transactions enough to secure his conviction. The forged divorce email became crucial evidence, and once the fraud was established, the court set aside the divorce. Desmond’s lies had destroyed our marriage, but they could no longer erase truth. I finally understood my wife had been fighting to protect our family while I defended the person destroying it.

Delphine and I are not remarried, and one hospital visit could not repair everything. Our son is two now, and he has both parents together again. I attend every dinner, listen when Delphine speaks, and no longer let anyone control me. Delphine had seen the rot before I did. She tried to tell me every way she could. I called her interference. Now I know she was protecting me. I will spend my life ensuring our son knows the truth: his mother never left us. She was the one who tried to bring me home.
