Delphine had the guarantee on Colton’s hundred-and-eighty-thousand-dollar loan withdrawn before it funded, which alone changed his entire year. The credit reference he had forged with my name became a matter for the lender’s fraud department once I filed a statement, because using someone as a personal reference is one thing and using them without permission on a signed application is another. The ninety-five thousand in undisclosed debt did the rest of the work on its own. His confident future collapsed under the weight of what he had actually built it on.
