Every Saturday morning, the same biker appeared at my wife’s grave. He wore a black leather jacket, heavy boots, and a helmet he always removed before sitting down. He never spoke to anyone. He simply placed a small bunch of flowers beside Emily’s name, sat quietly for several minutes, and left.
At first, I assumed he had known her from somewhere. Emily had been a pediatric nurse, volunteered at our church, and seemed to know half the people in town. But I couldn’t remember her ever mentioning a biker. He kept coming every week, through rain and cold, long after the funeral flowers had disappeared.
By the third month, curiosity had turned into something darker. I began wondering whether Emily had kept some secret from me.
One Saturday, I finally walked toward him.
“I’m Emily’s husband,” I said. “I think it’s time you told me who you are.”
The biker slowly stood, tears already filling his eyes.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I only came here to say thank you.”
“Thank you for what?”
