I Came Home to a Hundred Roses for My Wife and Feared the Worst Until I Read the Note2

Jane’s husband realized that while he had been busy traveling for work, both of them had allowed exhaustion and silence to grow between them. They apologized and began talking honestly again. Instead of permanently quitting, Jane discovered that the district offered twelve weeks of leave while holding her position.

During the summer, Jane rested, spent time with family, and rediscovered her passion for writing. She even submitted essays about her classroom experiences, and one was accepted by a small journal. When she returned to school in late August, her students welcomed her back with excitement.

On the first Friday of September, Jane brought home a crayon drawing from one of her students. It showed a smiling woman standing in a window of light, with a simple message at the bottom: “You came back. Good.”

The roses eventually disappeared, their petals becoming part of the garden. But something much more important remained. Jane and her husband were home together more often, talked openly, and no longer allowed silence to replace connection. Their house looked almost exactly the same—but their lives had changed completely.
