For seven years, Jane had always welcomed her husband home from work trips. But after one trip, he arrived to find the porch empty and covered with more than a hundred roses in every color. Neither of them knew who had sent them, and after a year of growing distance and silence, suspicion quickly entered the room.
Then he discovered a small envelope hidden beneath the flowers. Inside was a handwritten note from a child: “Please don’t quit. We love you so much. We are so sorry.” Jane finally revealed that she had secretly resigned from her teaching job two weeks earlier. Overwhelmed by budget cuts, struggling students, long hours, and worsening health, she had reached the point where she could no longer continue.
The roses, however, came from her students. When they learned that Jane was leaving, they pooled their small amounts of money to buy the flowers. One student contributed birthday money, while another carefully wrote the note because the other children believed her handwriting “looked the most like love.”
