My Wealthy Husband Brought a Woman Home—Then I Discovered a Family Secret I Never Expected

When my husband Adrian came home with an exhausted older woman named Maggie, I thought I had misunderstood him. “Take her upstairs and help her get settled,” he said gently. Maggie had nowhere safe to stay, so Adrian had brought her home from a community meal center. I agreed to help, never imagining that this quiet act of kindness would somehow reopen the mystery of my childhood.

 

 

While helping Maggie wash her hair, I noticed a crescent-shaped birthmark on her shoulder. My hands began trembling because my mother had the exact same mark. She disappeared after a house fire when I was ten, and our family had always believed she died. I hurried to my bedroom and returned with an old photograph. Maggie stared at it for several seconds, then touched her shoulder. Then she looked at me and whispered my name.
