It started with something so ordinary that I almost laughed when my husband warned me about it. I had left the kitchen range hood light on overnight. I was exhausted after cooking dinner, cleaning the house, and getting the children ready for school, so when I finally went upstairs, I forgot to switch it off. At breakfast, my husband mentioned it and told me I should be more careful. I shrugged. It was only a small light.
Still, that evening, I checked the hood. The bulb looked fine, the switch worked normally, and there was no strange smell or heat. I cleaned the grease filter and made sure nothing was damaged. Everything seemed completely safe. I replaced the old bulb with the manufacturer-approved LED and went to bed.
At 2:13 a.m., I woke to a strange smell.
