Priya ended the call with a thoughtful expression before placing another document on the conference table. The buyer had confirmed every detail. Although Kayla had proudly claimed she sold the Corvette, the signed bill of sale and cashier’s check told a different story. Dylan had met the buyer, signed every document, handed over the keys, and accepted the payment. Even more damaging, the vehicle title clearly showed Ray and Barbara as joint owners with right of survivorship. When Ray died, Barbara automatically became the sole legal owner. Neither Kayla nor Dylan had ever possessed the authority to sell the restored car.
That afternoon Priya filed a formal notice disputing the transfer. The buyer’s title company immediately froze the transaction, and the cashier’s check was placed in dispute. Barbara quietly signed the required paperwork without looking toward either stepchild. Just as everyone prepared to leave, Priya opened a thin envelope delivered by overnight courier. “There’s something else,” she said. “Ray left instructions about the Corvette that no one has seen until today.”
