When Snoop’s staff attempted to pay for the food, the card would not process. According to Sofia Valmadre, daughter of the restaurant’s owners, the payment terminal repeatedly failed.

“He sent his staff to take it and pay, but they couldn’t pay. I don’t know why, it wasn’t going,” Sofia later explained. “So my mother told him that it was okay.”

For a small family-run business operating during one of the busiest global sporting events in the world, letting a customer walk out without paying could have been a risk. But instead of insisting on a solution or making the moment uncomfortable, the family chose trust. They waved off the issue and told him not to worry about it.

There were no demands, no publicity stunts, no expectation of something in return. It was simply an act of goodwill — one family deciding that sometimes things happen and it is okay.

“Team USA athletes are the real stars — I’m just here to cheer, uplift and maybe drop a little wisdom from the sidelines,” Snoop said when the partnership was announced. “This team represents the best of what sport can be: talent, heart, and hustle. If I can bring a little more love and motivation to that, that’s a win for me.”

Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the USOPC, emphasized the natural chemistry between Snoop and the athletes.

“From the moment Snoop met Team USA athletes, there was an instant connection — mutual respect, genuine curiosity, and a lot of laughter,” she said. “His enthusiasm for the Olympic and Paralympic Movement is contagious.”

For Snoop, the Olympic chapter is a far cry from his beginnings in South Los Angeles during the 1980s and 1990s. In a previous interview, he admitted that becoming part of the Olympic spotlight was never something he imagined.

“Never, never, never,” he said when asked if he saw this path coming.
