Family of Two Children, Ages 8 and 10, Speak Out After Annunciation Catholic Church

Following the recent tragedy at Annunciation Catholic Church, two Minneapolis families are grieving the loss of their children, Harper Moyski, 10, and Fletcher Merkel, 8. Both were remembered as joyful, kind, and deeply loved by family and friends.

Fletcher’s father described his son as energetic and curious, with a love for sports, cooking, and the outdoors. Harper’s parents recalled her as bright and compassionate, a girl whose laughter and kindness touched everyone she met. They also shared the immense pain now carried by Harper’s younger sister, who adored her sibling.

The Minneapolis community has rallied in support, holding vigils and memorials. Parents, students, and neighbors spoke of the shock of the day, but also gratitude for the quick response of staff and community members, which prevented further tragedy.

In total, 18 people were injured, most of them children. Authorities have confirmed that, despite the seriousness of the incident, all are expected to recover. This news has provided a small measure of comfort amid the grief.

Both families are determined to turn their pain into purpose. Fletcher’s father urged others to remember his son for the joy he brought, not only the tragedy that ended his life. Harper’s parents called for meaningful changes, stressing that no family should endure such heartbreak again.

Local and federal investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the event. Officials have said the findings could shape measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

President Donald Trump extended condolences, asked the nation to pray, and ordered U.S. flags lowered to half-staff until August 31, 2025. In his statement, he recognized both the sorrow of the families and the resilience of the community.

As Minneapolis mourns, the families of Harper and Fletcher hope their children’s memories inspire lasting change, creating a safer, more compassionate future.
