A Democratic whistleblower’s long-standing accusations about Sen. Adam Schiff have resurfaced following the release of FBI interview reports. The whistleblower claims that during the Trump–Russia investigation Schiff encouraged leaking classified information, allegations Schiff has consistently denied. Former U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman said that if prosecutors ever brought such a case and proved it, each alleged leak could carry major financial penalties and potentially severe criminal exposure.
The whistleblower said he repeatedly informed the FBI beginning in 2017 but saw no follow-up action, even after restating his claims in 2023. He also alleged that he lost his job after contacting federal authorities. Some political critics argue this reflects a broader pattern of inconsistent investigative priorities within the FBI, though the agency has not publicly addressed these specific claims.
Tolman explained that any hypothetical prosecution would depend heavily on evidence, intent, and the nature of the alleged misconduct. Meanwhile, Schiff has issued no new statement but has previously rejected similar accusations as partisan attempts to undermine his work.
