Federal officials are reportedly investigating Alexandria Ocasio‑Cortez (D-NY) following serious allegations. According to Tom Homan — a former head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) — her congressional office is under review for employing an undocumented immigrant who may have aided other undocumented individuals in evading ICE detection.
Beyond the employment concern, it is alleged that Ocasio-Cortez’s staff hosted or supported webinars aimed at informing undocumented migrants about how to respond to ICE operations — advice that federal authorities view as potentially crossing into impeding immigration enforcement. Homan has publicly stated that ICE has been instructed to “drill in” on the case and examine whether these actions may constitute obstruction, pointing out that “when you knowingly hinder … removal, that’s a crime.”
As of now, no formal charges have been issued and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has not commented publicly on the probe. Some analysts note that while the alerts from ICE and Homan are significant, they do not equate to an official DOJ indictment, and legal experts caution that educational “know your rights” type forums are typically protected speech unless they cross into active facilitation of illegal acts.
