Bea asked whether the injured teenager wore a gray hoodie. The nurse nodded, explaining that his belongings had arrived inside a plastic hospital bag. Suddenly, Bea remembered something important. Months earlier, she had photographed the boy holding a birthday cupcake intended for the nurse. She quickly retrieved the photograph from her phone.
When the nurse saw the picture, her expression changed completely. She covered her mouth and whispered that the boy was indeed the patient in bed four.
