The Senate confirmed Kelly Loeffler on Wednesday in a bipartisan vote to lead the Small Business Administration (SBA), bringing the total number of Donald Trump’s cabinet officials to 18. The vote was 52-46, with Nevada Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen joining 51 Republicans in support.
Loeffler, a former U.S. senator from Georgia, will now oversee an agency with roughly a $1 billion budget that provides loans, grants, and financial support to small-business owners. Prior to this role she worked as an executive at Intercontinental Exchange, and completed the term of Sen. Johnny Isakson. Though she faced controversy over stock trades at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, she pledged to donate her annual salary to charity and conduct audits of SBA spending.
Her confirmation also signals that the SBA under Loeffler intends to emphasize accountability, reduce bureaucracy, and align with the “America First” agenda, targeting waste and inefficiency.
