The Republican-controlled House passed the “Protecting American Energy Production Act” with a vote of 226 to 188. This legislation prevents future administrations from banning oil and gas drilling, including hydraulic fracturing (fracking), without Congressional approval. Republican lawmakers unanimously supported the bill, while 118 Democrats opposed it.
The bill was introduced by Rep. August Pfluger of Texas, who voiced concerns about potential fracking bans during the Biden administration. The legislation comes in response to President Biden’s restrictions on drilling across approximately 625 million acres of coastal and offshore waters. Pfluger criticized Biden’s policies, describing them as part of a “war on American energy.”
If signed into law, the bill would block future administrations from imposing new restrictions on hydraulic fracturing and other domestic energy production activities, ensuring that any major policy changes would require Congressional consent.
