The officer ignored the complaints and continued observing the driver’s behavior. He asked several simple questions, including where the man had been and whether he had consumed alcohol. The driver answered differently each time. First, he claimed he had visited a friend. Then he mentioned a restaurant. Finally, he admitted having a few drinks but insisted they couldn’t possibly affect his driving. The officer explained that his observations raised serious concerns. The driver laughed nervously and said, “Officer, I’m actually a very responsible person.” Unfortunately, his attempt at demonstrating responsibility nearly ended with him falling against the car door.
The officer asked him to remain still while he checked his identification and prepared the next steps. The driver became increasingly impatient. He complained about the cold, the roadside, and the officer’s attitude. Then he suddenly smiled as though he had discovered a brilliant solution. “Why don’t you just ask me something difficult?” he suggested. “I’m excellent at answering questions.” The officer raised an eyebrow. He had already heard enough excuses for one evening, but decided to humor the man. “Very well,” he replied. “Let’s see how you handle one final challenge.”
