My Boss Asked Me To Take His Daughter To Prom Until She Revealed His Real Reason6

Sheldon slid a folder across the desk. Inside was a formal job offer: operations manager, a substantial salary increase, health insurance, and training in purchasing and logistics. I read it twice. The money could help my mother replace the washing machine, pay household bills without counting every dollar, and finally allow Janelle to buy shoes without hiding holes beneath marker-colored tape. But the position also came with responsibilities I had never handled before. I asked Sheldon why he hadn’t simply spoken to me. He lowered his eyes and admitted that he thought he needed proof. Janelle immediately hugged me and announced that she was getting new sneakers. I laughed, but I knew the decision meant more than money. It meant trusting myself to learn, lead, and make mistakes without giving up. On Monday, I returned to Sheldon’s office and accepted the position on one condition: no more secret tests. Sheldon agreed, and Georgia grinned from the doorway. For the first time, I felt that the future might be something I could choose rather than something I simply had to survive.
