Nathan walked Grandma through the front doors himself, past the photographer, and seated her in the front row beside our parents. Albert cleaned up the broken glass himself, humming. The bride, Chloe, was mortified when she heard what her mother had done, and she apologized to Grandma before the ceremony. Vivienne apologized too, quietly, still pale. Grandma accepted both apologies and asked only one thing in return: that everyone try her biscuits.
The tin was empty within ten minutes. Albert got the first one, and Nathan ate four before the first dance. The photographer took a picture of Grandma standing beneath her portrait, wearing the same dress and the same brooch, thirty-five years apart. It hangs in the Hargrove Dining Room now, right beside the original. And at the next board meeting, the club quietly changed one rule. Nobody, for any reason, is ever sent to the service entrance again.
