My Husband Said He Was Stuck At Work On The Night Of Our Anniversary Dinner3

The court eventually cleared me completely and closed every fraudulent account carrying my name. A week later, I filed for divorce from my kitchen table. Damien was denied bail after the judge reviewed the insurance policy, and he never looked at me in court. Months later, Tessa and I met for coffee. She’d believed she was building a future with a successful divorced man; I’d believed I was married to someone incapable of deliberately destroying me. We weren’t enemies. We were simply two women who had trusted the same lie.

Tessa gave birth to a daughter that June. I sent flowers and wished them a peaceful future untouched by Damien’s choices. We never became close friends, but we understood each other. Julian still sends me a simple card every year, reminding me that eventually the truth surfaced. And on what used to be my wedding anniversary, I’ve created a tradition of my own. I go out alone, order sea bass, and actually enjoy every bite. I don’t mourn the marriage anymore. I raise my glass to the woman Damien tried to frame, betray, and erase—the woman who survived him, reclaimed her name, and finally learned that freedom tastes better than any anniversary dinner ever did.
