My Daughter Demanded $800 Monthly and Babysitting, So I Rented My Own House 2

I moved quietly, afraid of hurting Michelle. When she discovered the truth, she was furious. “You’d rather pay a stranger than your own family?” she demanded. I explained that I wanted to remain her mother, not become her renter. Still, I missed my grandchildren terribly and wondered whether independence had cost me more than I expected.

Then I learned Mr. Brandt was struggling with his store’s accounts. Having kept books for twenty-two years, I offered to help. I forgave them, but suggested a different arrangement. I would care for the children on Tuesdays and Thursdays, free of charge, in my own home. They could visit whenever they wanted, but my time and independence would be respected. For the first time, we were discussing a relationship built on honesty rather than financial pressure or guilt.
