Inside the folder were letters Elena claimed she had sent over the years, childhood drawings from all six girls, and pages from their father’s old journal. Chloe explained that many of the letters had been returned because Elena never provided a reliable address. The drawings showed little girls waiting for their mother, while the journal recorded their father’s desperate attempts to explain her absence without destroying their trust. Elena insisted she had tried repeatedly to reconnect and accused him of blocking her.
Then Chloe placed another document on the table. It showed that their father’s address and phone number had remained unchanged for all fifteen years. He had never disappeared, moved away, or changed his contact information. Julian stared at Elena, realizing he had believed a story that was never complete. Their father calmly confirmed the records and admitted only that he had softened the truth when the girls were young because he couldn’t bear telling six children that their mother had chosen another life.
Chloe closed the folder and reached for her father’s hand.
