DOCUMENTED TRUTH
I went to HR, but not to report Coralie simply for having a relationship with Desmond. Workplace relationships between colleagues were not automatically against policy, and I knew that. I went because I had six months of documented schedule changes placing me in the office during evenings that, cross-referenced with Desmond’s travel records, matched their time together. I did not need to accuse anyone of arranging my schedule. The timestamps spoke for themselves.
I requested a formal review under our company’s conflict-of-interest policy, which required supervisors to disclose personal relationships with subordinates. Coralie had never disclosed hers. That was the violation. She was placed on administrative leave, and I was temporarily reassigned to another supervisor. I walked out of HR feeling exhausted rather than victorious. I had brought the documents, and I knew there was more to the story than either of them expected.
