What I Did At 8:00 The Next Morning, And The Part Of This That Was Never Actually About Desmond3

The wedding venue returned half our deposit after the owner heard what had happened. My mother’s dress still fit her, but the invitations were recycled. I stayed at the same company, working under a different supervisor on a different floor. Sometimes I passed Coralie’s old office and remembered her cream blazer, her familiar smile, and the way she had asked about my wedding. I was still trying to separate what I felt about her from what she had done. I hadn’t finished that process, and I no longer felt pressured to.

The storm Desmond never expected wasn’t a public argument, a furious post, or a dramatic scene. It was me, alone in our apartment at 9:30 on a Thursday night, deciding to be precise, documented, and quiet. I gathered the evidence and followed the proper process. I didn’t need to scream or threaten anyone. I simply stopped protecting people who had never protected me. By the time they understood what was happening, the storm had already been moving for hours. And this time, I was the one deciding where it would go.
