I arrived at the hall in Walter’s dress, carrying his recipe card. A sign stopped me: PRIVATE EVENT CANCELED. Rhonda was there, smiling until she read it. She demanded to know who had canceled her party. I told her the card on file was mine, nobody had asked me to pay, and nobody had asked me to attend. She started talking about gifts, gratitude, and what she deserved. Cars filled the lot while guests watched.
I stayed calm. I told Rhonda the hall would refund what it could, and she could pay the rest herself. Then I handed the manager my email. He read it, looked at Rhonda, and nodded.
