Five years ago, Grant walked away from our life because he wanted a fresh start. When I tried to tell him something important, he dismissed me and left. I rebuilt everything. I married Nathan, a patient man who stepped into the life Grant abandoned. Together, we raised our four-year-old daughter, Ava. Then, at my cousin’s wedding, Grant appeared with Melissa, the woman he had left me for. He boasted about his success until he saw Ava.
She ran toward me, laughing, then pointed to Nathan and called him Daddy. Grant froze. Ava had his facial structure and the same dimple on her left cheek. He asked her age. I answered four years and three months. The color drained from his face as he calculated timing.
