For ten years, I had believed I knew everything about my husband. Nathan was predictable in the comforting way that made marriage feel safe. Every morning, he left early, every evening he came home, and whenever I asked about the hours he spent away, he gave me the same simple answer: he was helping people. I never questioned it until that morning, when I found a note in his pocket mentioning a silver car and an address I didn’t recognize. Something inside me snapped. I followed him, convinced I was about to uncover an affair.
But instead of finding another woman waiting in a restaurant or hotel, I watched Nathan step out of the silver car wearing a perfectly fitted wedding suit. The woman beside him said something I couldn’t hear before walking toward a community center. Nathan turned, saw me standing across the street, and went completely still. “You followed me,” he whispered. I opened my mouth, but no words came.
