The image on the screen looked gray and impossible to understand. Dr. Evans quietly enlarged one section of the scan before pointing to a tiny surgical clip near my left fallopian tube. She explained there was scarring consistent with a previous procedure. I immediately shook my head because I had never undergone surgery there, and my medical records listed only a medication related hospitalization from 2008 after an overdose. The room suddenly felt colder than before.
At home I searched every folder until I found missing discharge papers, an unfamiliar sedative, and a consent form bearing Michael’s signature instead of mine.
