An 83-year-old woman named Margaret was doing her own grocery shopping when a woman behind her became impatient because she was taking longer to find her wallet. The woman made several rude comments about Margaret’s age, but Margaret’s daughter tried to support her without escalating the situation. When Margaret finally reached the cashier, something unexpected happened.
The cashier, Helen, looked closely at Margaret and suddenly recognized her. She stopped the checkout and called the manager, who brought out an old box containing a photograph of two young women with a baby. Margaret immediately recognized one of the women as her older sister, Anna, whom she had lost contact with more than fifty years earlier. Helen then revealed that Anna had been her mother and that she had kept the photograph at the store in the hope that Margaret might one day appear.
