I Kept Waking At Three Every Morning, Until I Discovered The Quiet Habits Keeping My Body Awake

For weeks, I woke up almost every night at exactly three in the morning. At first, I blamed the clock, the neighbors, or some strange habit my body had developed. I would stare into the darkness, wondering why I could fall asleep normally but suddenly become completely alert hours later. Sometimes my thoughts started racing. Other nights I felt restless or strangely hungry. The more I worried about not sleeping, the harder it became to fall asleep again. Eventually, I realized the timing itself might be telling me something. Sleep moves through repeating cycles, shifting between lighter sleep, deeper stages, and REM. During the early morning hours, lighter sleep can make a person more vulnerable to small disruptions.

 

 

So I began paying attention instead of panicking. I wrote down what I ate, when I drank coffee, how stressful my evenings were, and what the bedroom felt like when I woke. After several nights, one pattern finally caught my attention.
