A Widow’s Nine Years of Kindness to a Lonely Neighbor Lead to a Basement Discovery

After receiving a mysterious letter from Edmund, I went to my basement and opened the old chest freezer that had been in my home for years. Hidden beneath the frozen food was a heavy package wrapped in layers of plastic. Inside was a metal document box with a brass key and another letter from Edmund.

 

 

The letter explained that Edmund had secretly arranged for the box to be hidden there years earlier. He had become afraid of dying alone and wanted to make sure everything he owned went to someone he trusted. After I began bringing him homemade soup, he considered me family and chose the freezer as the safest hiding place. Inside the box, I discovered documents that completely changed my understanding of his intentions.
