After my father passed away, I spent several weekends cleaning out his garage. Most things were easy to identify: old wrenches, screwdrivers, paint cans, gardening equipment, and boxes of hardware he had collected over decades. Then, tucked behind a dusty toolbox, I found a strange metal device I had never seen before. My father had apparently owned it for years, and I vaguely remembered seeing him smile whenever I asked what it was.
I kept the object because throwing it away felt wrong. Weeks later, I took it to a mechanic and placed it on his workbench. He turned it over several times, examined the unusual end, and then suddenly laughed. “I haven’t seen one of these in years,” he said. I expected him to tell me it was some specialized engine tool, but instead he gave me an answer that completely changed how I looked at the mysterious object.
