3 colors you should never wear to a funeral

A funeral is a moment of remembrance, grief, and support for the people left behind. While clothing may seem like a small detail, what you wear can quietly communicate respect for the deceased and their family. In many traditions, dark and subdued colors are preferred because they help create a solemn atmosphere. Wearing something overly bright or attention-grabbing can unintentionally send the wrong message, even when there is no disrespect intended. Among the colors and styles commonly considered inappropriate, three stand out because they can make someone appear as though they are attending a celebration rather than a farewell.

 

 

 

 

 

The first is bright red, which is strongly associated with passion, celebration, and good fortune. In many Asian cultures, red symbolizes happiness, while in Western settings it can attract attention because it contrasts sharply with traditional black and dark clothing. Unless the family specifically requests brighter colors, red is usually better avoided. But red isn’t the only shade that can draw unwanted attention at a funeral. Other vivid colors can create the same problem—and some can be even more distracting.
