“Why did you remove me from the family before you removed me from the trip?” I asked Trevor over the phone. He stumbled through excuses about the group chat and claimed he hadn’t known what happened. I let him talk until I finally told him what I had discovered in the trash. The room assignments listed the primary suite, guest rooms, and bunk room. Ten names were written down. Mine wasn’t among them. They hadn’t forgotten me. They had planned the entire Christmas trip without me while still expecting me to pay for it.
I asked Trevor to put me on speaker so everyone could hear what I had to say. Then I calmly reminded them that for three years, Trevor and Delaney had lived in my house without paying rent while I covered groceries, utilities, and even family vacations. I had spent $15,800 arranging the Christmas trip they had deliberately excluded me from. I told them the reservation was canceled and the money was back in my account. When they returned home, however, there would be another conversation. They had no idea yet that I had decided the days of quietly funding everyone else’s life were over.
